TicketStumbler Launches!

August 6th, 2008

Our friends over at TicketStumbler.com launched today. TicketStumbler is a search engine and comparison website for the secondary ticket market. For about the past month, TicketStumbler has been in private beta (we were invited to be beta testers) and is now in public beta. It’s come a long way since its private beta as the site was completely redesigned and some pretty cool futures such as geotracking and stadium addresses were added. Additionally, TicketStumbler offers a very easy to use natural language search and intuitive interface to find tickets to sold out sports games. Right now they only have tickets for the NFL, NCAA College Football, MLB and NHL, but they planning on adding more sports as soon as possible.

Congrats guys!

Photo:EFE/HERBERT PFARRHOFERJust weeks before the launch of the European Championship football tournament, about 1,800 volunteers gathered at Vienna’s Ernst Happel Stadium on Sunday, May 11, to shed their clothing for American photographer Spencer Tunick.  SH doesn’t have Ernst Happel in its vast stadium database yet, so check it out on Wikipedia in the meantime.

The stadium will play host to seven European Championship games, including the final. The tournament kicks off on June 7 in Basel, Switzerland.  And on Sunday, Tunick also had an artistic tie in to the games: He had nude models posé with 1,000 soccer balls. Nice touch.

Considering each participant recieved free tickets to the tournament, I’m surprised there were only 1,800 shameless Viennese crazies.

David Beckham, after providing the American specialty of all hype and no substance, finally proved useful (on the soccer field) by scoring his first goal of the season yesterday. He also added an assist in the victory over the DC United at the LA Galaxy’s Home Depot Center. As much as I enjoy poking fun at Beckham, the goal itself was rather impressive.

Additionally, the usually stone-faced Victoria Beckham was absolutely ecstatic following the goal. Just kidding all she did was golf clap.

The Jake Brown Fall

August 5th, 2007

I know this is a few days old, but it just has to be posted. The fact that he eventually got up and walked away from a 45 foot fall at the Staples Center is borderline unbelievable.

In the aftermath, Brown said he felt like he had been in a car accident and still felt, understandably, groggy.

X GamesX Games 13 begins tonight at 9PM EST. While the two venues, STAPLES Center and The Home Depot Center, will continue to be the venues for X Games 13, there will be some changes to the locations of the events. Big Air, which has been traditionally held outside at both the STAPLES Center and The Home Depot Center, will now return to the STAPLES Center in an unprecedented indoor competition for Skateboard and BMX Freestyle Big Air. The vert ramp will be moved to The Home Depot Center for the Skateboard and BMX competitions. Fourteen hours of live programming on ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC will be offered as well as X Games 13 coverage on ESPN International, EXPN.com, ESPN Classic, ESPN360.com, SportsCenter and ESPN2’s X Center.

The annual X Games is the premier action sports event in the world and showcases more than 150 of the world’s top athletes competing in BMX Freestyle, Moto X, Skateboard and Surfing. Last year, more than 138,000 fans attended the competition at The Home Depot Center and STAPLES Center, an increase of nearly 13 percent over X Games 11 in 2005 while another 35.6 million fans tuned in on ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC.

Good News for Magic Fans

July 31st, 2007

Last Friday Whit Watson reported promising news for Orlando Magic fans:

“History will look back on this day in the same light as the day that Walt Disney announced he was building his theme park in Orlando.”

So said Alex Martins, the COO of the Orlando Magic, after Thursday night’s gut-wrenching 5-2 affirmative vote by the Orange County Commission. The plan, as we all know by now, is to tap into the county’s Tourism Development Tax, or TDT, to help fund a new downtown arena, a performing arts center, and a refurbishment of the aging Citrus Bowl. Total value of all three projects will escalate well north of $1 billion dollars, with a sizable chunk of that money coming from the hundreds of thousands of tourists who pass through central Florida each year.”Rashard Lewis Headshot

The move should help improve the Orlando downtown area considerably while increasing attendance and season ticket sales, which the Magic desperately need after handing their god awful Rashard Lewis signing.

The MLL is made up of ten teams divided in to two conferences (Eastern and Western).
